FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why do I need a vehicle warranty?

Here's the truth: Even if you have the best-manufactured or most reliable vehicle on the market, according to J.D. Power, some day it's going to need repairs or breakdown when you least expect it and new cars are extremely complicated to repair. Even what is considered a minor mechanical breakdown or a relatively minor defect can cost more than expected. By purchasing a warranty, you protect your second most important investment: your vehicle. When something breaks down, you just have to provide your maintenance records for the service intervals* that are required, which are different than what your OEM manufacturer requires. There's no deductible and we handle the rest. In many cases, a warranty pays for itself in one repair. Having a transferable warranty in place can also increase the resale value of your vehicle.

What is a warranty?

The Regal Powertrain Product Warranty Program covers the heart and soul of your vehicle engine and transmission. In vehicles equipped with a 4WD/AWD transfer case, there's an additional fee of $95.00 for this coverage. A warranty is an additional type of coverage above and beyond the coverage afforded by the original OEM manufacturer. When you purchase a new vehicle it comes with an OEM warranty, so why should you have a vehicle without extended warranty protection?

A vehicle warranty is a type of guarantee where we trust you to do the vehicle service maintenance intervals* according to the timelines in our Agreement, then your vehicle should stay in working condition for an additional period of time or a certain number of miles. Unfortunately, most breakdowns and repairs happen after the original warranty has run out. While this original OEM protection is initially valuable, that is where the safety of a vehicle warranty comes in afterwards. You can protect yourself from high repair costs with a vehicle warranty. A warranty is different than a vehicle service contract (VSC). Typically, VSC's cost a lot more and cover numerous items that do not breakdown on a consistent basis that you'll have the opportunity to pay for. VSC's only work best for the seller of the VSC. You have to ask yourself how many times have you replaced your vehicle's computers, radio, window or seat motors? This is where the extra cost of a VSC comes in, covering components that if they do go bad, it's less than 3% of all VSC claims.

Our policy is simple where Regal considers the first 30 days a "review period." Take the time to read through your policy and if you have a question we can be reached at the number on the registration form. When do I get my product?

Once you have passed the initial 30-day timeframe or have made your second payment for the warranty, our internal fulfillment center will send you the additive and wallet cards. Consumer publications often recommend that customers buy direct from the source when it comes to purchasing extended vehicle protection. Because Regal has no middleperson, you receive substantial savings and Regal passes that saving on to you. Dealerships typically purchase their policies from other administrators and offer them to customers at a higher markup. By purchasing directly from Regal, we can offer warranties that are better and less expensive than what the dealer offers, and they can be purchased anytime your vehicle remains under the 150,000 mileage limit.

Should I activate my warranty if my manufacturer's auto warranty is still valid?

No. Regal suggests you wait until you are about 60 days prior or at the OEM mileage limit. If you did buy a warranty before your warranty expires, the OEM would still be responsible for any repairs to the vehicle, since they are first place in the warranty chain of command. As a consumer, you would not be saving money by spending money sooner than needed.

Why doesn't my protection plan cover maintenance items?

Maintenance items are considered consumable components of your vehicle that are relatively inexpensive but wear out on a regular basis. Maintenance items can include brakes and clutches. Other basic items are maintenance items like windshield wipers, oil changes, which you already service.

What does it mean when a vehicle has a pre-existing condition?

A pre-existing condition is an existing mechanical defect that relates to the mechanical condition of your vehicle prior to warranty purchase. No ones coverage can cover this pre-existing issue. If it did, people would purchase coverage just to repair these pre-existing conditions on a regular basis and coverage then would become unaffordable.
